Vinyl/Resilient: Asphalt Tile

Pioneer of the resilient-tile field, asphalt tile is the most economical of the flooring tiles. Asphalt tile is available only in a limited number of colors and patterns and requires more maintenance than do the more modern tiles. Another disadvantage is that asphalt tile is more rigid than the newer tiles, so it cracks more readily. However, asphalt tile is good for utility areas or for other places demanding economical tile. Asphalt tile was developed for damp and alkaline conditions where linoleum did not fare well. It is resistant to fungal attack, mild acids, and oils and grease, and it can be used where floor temperature is less than 80º F (27º C).
